Its jacuzzi sits beneath a starry sky, opposite a wall of roses, alongside a king-size bed: a setting that almost speaks for itself. When the idea is not simply to celebrate but to surprise; to give a night people will talk about, escape the expected setting, or make a gift truly original, the Saint-Roch suite takes centre stage.

It is a 17th-century vaulted cellar, with exposed stonework and herringbone parquet flooring, and a jacuzzi beneath the vault. Its atmosphere is unique in Montpellier: you literally sleep beneath the stone, in a place with history. For those seeking an unexpected memory rather than a classic postcard scene, it is an obvious choice. The suite is near Saint-Roch church and rue Saint-Guilhem; its name comes from the church, not the station.

Two details work especially in its favour: the stone retains a natural coolness, pleasant in summer when the city heats up; and the vault is wonderfully suited to a carefully staged surprise, with a bottle by candlelight.
