A rainy day in Montpellier: things to do as a couple

Rain need not end your plans for a day together in Montpellier. An exhibition, a film or a board game can become the main event, followed by an evening in a suite with a private jacuzzi. The first thing to check is the day of the week: a wet Monday calls for a different plan from a Saturday.

These suggestions focus on the centre. The activities are indoors, but the streets between them are not covered. Opening information was checked on the venues’ official websites on 29 September 2026. Consult their own pages before travelling, especially on public holidays and between exhibitions.

Choose an activity for your day and time

• Tuesday to Sunday, during the day: consider Musée Fabre for fine art or MO.CO. for a contemporary exhibition. Choose the programme that interests you rather than trying to fit in both.
• Wednesday to Sunday: MO.CO. Panacée is another contemporary art option in the old town. It is a different venue from MO.CO. on rue de la République.
• Monday: Fabre, MO.CO. and Panacée are not reliable fallback plans on their usual closing day. Start with the film listings at Pathé Comédie, then book an indoor lunch or dinner.
• In the evening: a film, a board-game bar or a performance can give your trip a focal point. Check the booking arrangements, exact venue and finishing time first.

Musée Fabre or MO.CO.: an exhibition to enjoy together

Musée Fabre, on boulevard Bonne Nouvelle, lists opening hours of 11 am to 6 pm, Tuesday to Sunday. Browse the collections or choose an exhibition. A simple way to enjoy a visit together is to pick one work each, spend time looking at it, then explain what caught your attention. You do not need to see every room.

Check the museum's practical information for tickets, exceptional closures and accessibility. Large bags are prohibited; smaller bags are subject to cloakroom rules. Avoid planning this as your final stop with a suitcase in tow.

MO.CO., at 13 rue de la République, is a contemporary art venue near the Saint-Roch station area. Its usual opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday, 11 am to 7 pm from June to September, and 11 am to 6 pm from October to May. Make sure an exhibition is running during your stay.

MO.CO. Panacée, at 14 rue de l'École de Pharmacie, is farther north in the old town. It normally opens Wednesday to Sunday, with the same seasonal hours. The opening hours and access page distinguishes the two sites. MO.CO. on rue de la République does not accept suitcases during visits; lockers are for small bags.

A city-centre cinema, including an option to check on Mondays

Pathé Comédie is at 10 place de la Comédie. Choosing a film and screening time gives you a clear appointment around which to arrange lunch and check-in.

Look up the Pathé Comédie programme for your date. Check the language, subtitles and running time, particularly if you have a train afterwards. For Monday, confirm an available screening before relying on this option: there is no promise of a film at every hour.

Board games for two or a performance

At Les Castors, a board-game bar at 10 rue des Trésoriers de la Bourse, the team offers a games library and help choosing and learning a game. Ask specifically for something suited to two players. A short game leaves the evening open; a longer one can be your main activity.

The Les Castors website links to booking and venue information. Check opening times and consumption conditions. It is a shared venue; save any time you want entirely to yourselves for your accommodation.

Alternatively, browse the Opéra Orchestre national Montpellier calendar. Read the venue on the performance listing carefully: Opéra Comédie and Opéra Berlioz at the Corum are different halls. Performances depend on the date; there is not a show every night.

Three plans to adapt to your stay

Arriving on Saturday before check-in

Have lunch in the centre, then choose one exhibition or film for the afternoon. Standard VÉNUSA check-in starts at 5 pm. Allow time to collect your belongings and reach your suite; an overnight booking does not automatically provide morning access.

Spending a Monday in Montpellier

Find a Pathé Comédie screening for your date, then arrange lunch around it. If you are already staying in your suite between two nights, you can also leave part of the day free to read, talk or enjoy the bath. Choose dinner somewhere with confirmed Monday opening.

Leaving on Sunday after 11 am

Standard check-out is by 11 am. Lunch and a visit can extend the day before a later train, provided you have arranged luggage storage. Fabre and MO.CO. list daytime Sunday opening, subject to exceptional closures and exhibition schedules. Allow enough time for the journey to your actual station: Sud de France and Saint-Roch are not interchangeable.

Keep an evening for yourselves

Wet weather may make the accommodation itself a bigger part of your trip. VÉNUSA's three suites are in central Montpellier, each with an indoor private jacuzzi: Jean-Jaurès with its starry ceiling and rose wall, Comédie with its floral wall and swing, and Saint-Roch beneath a stone vault.
