A romantic weekend in Hérault: two nights in Montpellier, one day trip

For a romantic weekend in Hérault, start by choosing your pace: Sète’s waterfront without a car, or the lanes of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert and a day in the valley. This itinerary combines two nights in Montpellier with one day trip, leaving time together in the evening. All VÉNUSA suites are in Montpellier’s Écusson district; we do not offer accommodation in Sète or Saint-Guilhem.

Which weekend itinerary suits you?

• Arriving by train and avoiding a car? Choose Sète. Plan a return rail journey and a walk along the waterfront. Check both the departure and return stations: for this itinerary, look for Montpellier Saint-Roch, in the city centre.
• Driving and looking for historic streets and valley scenery? Choose Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert. Plan your parking, then walking or seasonal shuttle connections. This option needs more preparation than a day in town.
• Prefer more time in your suite, or is the weather unsuitable? Stay in Montpellier. A short walk, a visit and dinner can make a full day together. Our Montpellier weekend itinerary focuses on the city centre.

Sète and Saint-Guilhem are alternatives. Visiting both on the same Saturday would leave less time for sightseeing and your evening. This guide does not try to cover the whole department in two days.

Friday: arrive in Montpellier and settle in

Self check-in at VÉNUSA starts at 5 pm. If you arrive earlier, make plans that accommodate your luggage or have an arrangement confirmed beforehand. Any early check-in must be confirmed; do not assume you can leave your bags in the suite before access begins.

If driving, identify a public car park and the walk to your suite: the suites do not have private parking. If travelling by train, check whether your ticket arrives at Saint-Roch or Sud de France, as the journey into the centre differs. Keep the first evening simple: settle in, have dinner in the centre and enjoy the bath in your suite. The jacuzzi is a whirlpool bath that you fill yourself; jets must be switched off after 11 pm to respect the neighbours.

Saturday by the sea: Sète by train

Check the liO Train SNCF Montpellier–Sète timetable for your date, including the return before setting out. Rail journey time does not include walking to the waterfront or waiting at the station, so allow for both.

Plan the return around your dinner in Montpellier. Staying late in Sète requires a suitable way home; do not assume there will still be a train at your preferred time.

Saturday in the valley: Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert by car

Choose your main visit first: the village and abbey, with a second stop if time allows. The Pont du Diable, a cave visit and a full hike should not all be added to this itinerary. For a day focused on walking, compare Les Fenestrettes with other walks near Montpellier.

Check the Grand Site parking and shuttle information before leaving. Shuttles from the Pont du Diable area are seasonal: operation depends on the calendar, not simply on whether the car park is accessible. Check the final return shuttle too if you use it.

If the weather changes: a day in the centre

If a weather alert or access restriction affects your outing, change your plans. Staying in the Écusson lets you return to the suite during the day between your two nights without committing to a long itinerary.

Sunday: plan checkout and luggage

Standard checkout is before 11 am. If you plan a visit afterwards, arrange transport or storage for your luggage; do not assume you can keep it in the suite without agreement. Late checkout is an optional extra that needs confirmation, not an automatic extension.

Breakfast for two is included on the first morning. Make your own plans for the second morning or choose somewhere in town. Transport, parking, restaurants and visits are arranged separately: this is an itinerary suggestion, not an inclusive package.

What if you only stay one night?
